How to use the offer calculator

Enter your original asking price and the offer the buyer has sent. Add the postage charged to the buyer, what the item cost you, and the real costs for postage, packaging, labels or other selling expenses.

The result shows the estimated profit, the discount from asking price, and whether the offer clears your minimum profit target. It is designed for a quick check before accepting, declining or countering an offer.

Private seller and fee assumptions

For UK private seller mode, the calculator does not use the seller fee percentage or fixed fee fields. That reflects the simple planning assumption used across the seller tools, but it does not mean every eBay scenario is fee-free.

Use business or custom mode if a seller fee applies, if you are checking a business account, or if the final eBay screen shows a fee for the listing. Promoted listing percentage is kept separate because it can still matter when you choose to promote an item.

Before accepting an offer

Check the exact postage label price, parcel size, packaging cost, promoted listing rate and any return risk. A small offer discount can be fine on a high-margin item, but painful on a low-value item where postage and packaging take a large share.

This is an estimate only. eBay rules, buyer-facing fees, category treatment, returns, international sales, VAT, tax and account settings can change the real outcome. Check the final screen before acting.

Offer checks that are easy to miss

Think about the packed item, not just the item price. If an offer nudges the parcel into a higher postage band, the real profit can drop quickly. It is also worth checking whether the buyer has asked for combined postage, whether the item may need extra packaging, and whether accepting the offer leaves enough room for a possible partial refund.

If you are unsure, try the offer price, your lowest counter-offer and the full asking price as three separate checks. That makes the trade-off easier to see before you reply.

eBay offer calculator FAQs

Does private seller mode use the fee percentage fields?

No. UK private seller mode ignores the fee percentage and fixed fee fields. Promoted listing rate, postage, packaging and other costs are still included if entered.

Should I include postage charged to the buyer?

Yes. Add the postage the buyer pays as income, then add the postage label you buy as a cost. This keeps the profit estimate clearer.

Can this tell me whether to accept the offer?

It can show whether the offer appears to meet your profit target, but it is still an estimate. Check the final eBay screen before accepting.
